Following on from a formal tendering process, Lloydspharmacy has been selected as the most suitable operator to provide the service within the
Hessle Road Health and Wellbeing Centre, which is being developed by Citycare, the public private partnership delivering the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) programme in Hull.
The service will ensure patients benefit from the convenience of being able to visit their GP and collect their prescription all under one roof. Lloydspharmacy also occupies a unit at Citycare’s Bilton Grange Health Centre development and it has proved to be a huge hit with local residents there.
The £10m Hessle Road scheme will see the creation of a pioneering health centre on the site of the former Heron frozen food factory, in Walcott Street, west Hull, and will be the twelfth building delivered by Citycare in Hull. The building will serve as a base for modern primary care and community-based health services, re-housing three GP practices and services delivered at Marmaduke Health Centre in modern, purpose built facilities at the heart of one of the city’s busiest shopping and residential areas.
Jo Barnes, chief executive of Citycare, said: “I am thrilled to have Lloydspharmacy on board for the pharmacy unit within Hessle Road Health and Well-being Centre, the service will really complement the main health services in the building ensuring residents have easy access to everything in one place. The development is expected to be open to members of the public by Spring 2013 and we are confident it will be a welcome new facility in the area.”
Jon Whiting, area manager at Lloydspharmacy, said: “Lloydspharmacy is really excited to be working with such an innovative new health centre. Our involvement with other NHS centres in the city has shown us how beneficial the teaming up of pharmacies and health centres is to the public. Lloydspharmacy prides itself on customer satisfaction and the convenience we are providing to our customers through this partnership is central to our aims.”
Citycare is also in the process of building a further health centre in Bransholme (Bransholme Health Centre), whilst its flagship, city centre-based £16.5m project, Wilberforce Health Centre, is due to open to the public at the end of this month.
